Brisbane Community Pops Orchestra (BCPO) will present a program titled Encore! Our Favourites, inviting audiences to enjoy an afternoon of music selected by the very people performing it. The concert, which forms the orchestra’s third series for 2026, will feature a mix of classical favourites, film scores, and Australian works chosen by BCPO musicians as the pieces they most enjoy playing.

Encore! Our Favourites begins at 2:00 pm on Sunday, 23 August 2026 at St Paschal’s Catholic Church, 30 Warraba Avenue, Wavell Heights. The program brings together works selected by orchestra members, resulting in a varied repertoire that includes waltzes, film music and orchestral favourites.
A Program Chosen by the Orchestra
Among the featured works are Johann Strauss II’s Blue Danube Waltz, Tchaikovsky’s Waltz from Sleeping Beauty, the Overture from Gilbert and Sullivan’s The Pirates of Penzance, and music from Pirates of the Caribbean by Klaus Badelt.
Encore! will also showcase several of BCPO’s own musicians as soloists. The orchestra’s three trumpet players will perform Leroy Anderson’s lively Bugler’s Holiday, while one of its French horn players will present Ron Hanmer’s Pastorale, widely recognised as the theme from the long-running Australian radio serial Blue Hills.
The orchestra’s guitarist will perform Cavatina, made famous through the film The Deer Hunter. Audiences will also hear Astor Piazzolla’s Oblivion, performed by the principal oboe, and Camille Saint-Saëns’ The Swan, played by the principal cello.
Adding another element to the afternoon, the Honourable Martin Daubney AM KC will recite The Man From Snowy River while the orchestra performs the accompanying score.
Experienced Leadership Returns
Returning to the podium is conductor Neil Flottmann, whose career has encompassed professional performance, conducting and music education across Australia and overseas.
A graduate of the University of Sydney, Flottmann has performed as a flautist with several major Australian orchestras, including the Queensland Symphony Orchestra. He has also served as Chorus Master for the Lyric Opera of Queensland, The Australian Opera and the Canadian Opera Company.
His teaching career has included appointments at the NSW State Conservatorium of Music, the Queensland Conservatorium of Music and Queensland University of Technology, where he lectured in flute, musicianship, opera studies and conducting. Between 1988 and 1990, he was Education Director at The Australian Opera.
Flottmann has also held leadership roles in school music programs, including Director of Music at Cranbrook School in Sydney and Somerville House in Brisbane, before becoming Head of Performing Arts at Forest Lake College, now St John’s Anglican College.
The August concert gives audiences the chance to hear several BCPO musicians step forward as soloists in works they have personally selected as favourites.
