Severe Tropical Cyclone Trevor is now a category three storm with a “very destructive core”, and could intensify further before it makes landfall on the Queensland coast tonight, bringing wind gusts of up to 205kph, the Bureau of Meteorology says.

The community of Lockhart River is in lockdown as Severe Tropical Cyclone Trevor heads towards the Queensland coast as a category three storm with a “very destructive core”. The cyclone started making landfall about 4:00pm.
