Geebung has become a recurring social hub for Clique Brisbane as the volunteer-founded organisation approaches 10 years of running events for young adults with intellectual disabilities and additional support needs. Monthly dances at Geebung RSL now form a regular part of a broader calendar built around socialising, music and age-specific activities.
The September dance in the Centenary Room sold out, with more than 160 registrations recorded. Clique is due back at the venue on 16 October and again on 4 December for Cliquemas, placing Geebung at the centre of its remaining regular dance schedule for 2026.
A Familiar Place To Meet
Clique was founded in late 2016 with a focus on creating a dedicated social environment for people aged 18 to 35. Its Geebung events continue that model, giving participants a recurring place to meet rather than limiting the organisation to occasional one-off gatherings. The dance nights form only part of Clique’s program. Restaurant outings, pop-up events and an annual Riverfire gathering are also organised during the year, broadening the range of social activities available through the group.
At Geebung RSL, participants are encouraged to enjoy the event with as much independence as their circumstances allow. Parents and carers are asked to remain inside the function room only where personal support is required, while support workers who need to stay can attend on a dedicated ticket.
Geebung’s transport connections add to the venue’s practical role. The railway station is diagonally opposite the RSL and buses serve the area, while Clique can provide information about possible transport support for participants who need additional assistance.
Ten Years On, Geebung Stays On The Calendar
Clique’s approaching 10th birthday adds another chapter to a program that began with volunteers and continues to rely on volunteer support. People assist with event-night activities and behind-the-scenes work, while the organisation continues recruiting volunteers to take part in future events.
The formal anniversary celebration will be held at Kedron-Wavell on 20 November, but Geebung remains the regular setting for Clique’s monthly dance program. The October dance and December Cliquemas event bookend the birthday gala and keep the Centenary Room firmly in the organisation’s year-end schedule.
Geebung RSL and Kedron-Wavell are both listed among Clique Brisbane’s supporters. The Geebung events are alcohol, drug and smoke-free, with participant tickets including entry, a soft drink and light supper. Clique’s next Geebung dance will run from 7pm to 9:30pm on 16 October, with advance registration required and no walk-ins accepted.
