Wavell Heights Home Heads To Auction With Entire Proceeds Supporting Charity

A Wavell Heights home is set to leave a lasting legacy when it goes under the hammer this July, with the entire proceeds from the deceased estate auction set to support charitable work helping Australians in need.

The three-bedroom home at 37 Beeby Street, Wavell Heights, is scheduled to be auctioned on 22 July after its late owner nominated a national not-for-profit organisation as the beneficiary in their will. Ray White Rochedale agents Jason Song and Ken Chin are managing the campaign, with the proceeds to be distributed through the charity’s branches across Australia to help fund crisis assistance, relief services and community support.

Unlike many deceased estate auctions, the proceeds from this property will be directed to charity. According to the property’s marketing campaign, the funds will support services delivered through the organisation’s branches across Australia.

The post-war residence occupies an elevated block in a street that features a mix of traditional homes and newer builds. According to the marketing campaign, the home has remained in its original condition, retaining many of the features associated with classic suburban Brisbane houses.

Original wallpaper, a vintage-style sunroom and a retro kitchen layout remain in place, while the property also offers scope for renovation or redevelopment. The Ray White Rochedale listing described the home as occupying a generous block with a south-facing aspect that captures cooling breezes.

The agents said the campaign has already attracted interest from developers, renovators and investors. The property is being offered to the market for the first time as a deceased estate.

The auction combines the opportunity to purchase an original post-war home with a charitable outcome. Every dollar raised will contribute to services delivered through the beneficiary organisation’s national network, helping fund assistance for Australians experiencing hardship.

A sprawling, freshly renovated Queenslander at Kelvin Street in Wavell Heights is heading to auction, and early signs suggest it could give the suburb’s price record a serious nudge.

The five bedroom, three bathroom home at 14 Kelvin Street has been completely transformed by its owner-builders, who took on a substantial renovation project to turn the property into one of the area’s standout family homes. It’s being billed as the largest Queenslander to come onto the local market in four years, sitting on a generous 810 square metre block.

Inside, the scale is hard to miss. Ceilings stretch to 4.5 metres through the open plan living and dining areas, and the home still carries plenty of original Queenslander charm alongside its new finishes. French doors, leadlight windows, VJ panelling and timber floors sit comfortably next to a more contemporary kitchen fitted with Smeg appliances and a servery window that opens onto the outdoor entertaining space. From there, the home flows out to a pool and neatly kept gardens, making the indoor-outdoor connection one of its strongest selling points.

Marketing agents Nick Moloney and Drew Davies, of Place Ascot, have reported strong early interest, with around 35 groups coming through across two inspections so far. According to Moloney, buyers have responded well to both the quality of the renovation and the sheer size of the home for a Queenslander, with separate living zones proving particularly popular among middle-aged families.

Property records show the current owners bought the house in 2022 for $1.264 million, before embarking on the renovation that has reshaped it into its current form. It will go under the hammer on June 27.

Whether it can challenge the suburb record is the real question hanging over the auction. The benchmark to beat is 48 Power Street, which changed hands for $3.79 million in 2024, and remains the highest price paid for a house in Wavell Heights.

The scale of this one, both in size and in the level of finish, has clearly caught buyers’ attention, and with auction day fast approaching, there’s genuine curiosity about how far the bidding will go.

For now, the home stands as one of the more closely watched listings in Wavell Heights this winter, a reminder of how much appetite remains for character homes that combine old Queenslander bones with a genuinely modern renovation.

MAFS Stars Kerry and Johnny Balbuziente List Renovated Wavell Heights Home

Married At First Sight (MAFS) fan favourites Kerry and Johnny Balbuziente list their renovated Wavell Heights home on the market as they prepare for the next chapter in their lives.

The couple, who met during MAFS Season 8 in 2021, welcomed their first child, Chloe, eight weeks ago and are now looking to move closer to family in Ascot.

The Balbuziantes purchased the character home on Barker Street two years ago and have since transformed it with a comprehensive renovation.

“We’ve kept the beautiful, original ceiling roses and the same windows, but we’ve gently brought her into a more modern era,” Kerry Balbuziente explained. The renovation features bright whites and colourful furnishings, creating what she describes as a “coastal chic” aesthetic.

One unique feature of the home is the iconic plaque from their MAFS hotel room, which Johnny famously removed with a butter knife during filming. The memento now hangs prominently above the kitchen entrance, though the couple plans to take it to their next home.

The property is being marketed by Drew Davies of Place Estate Agents, with an auction scheduled for September 11. The Balbuziantes hope to capitalise on what they perceive as a hot market, though they acknowledge the challenges of buying in the current climate. “Lucky we have in-laws with a spare bedroom, so we might be bunking in all together!” Kerry joked.

Since their time on MAFS, the couple has focused on building their life together. They became engaged during a sunset boat ride on Sydney Harbour and tied the knot at Ciao Pai restaurant in Brisbane’s Howard Smith Wharves in January 2023.

Professionally, Kerry juggles her work as an occupational therapist with co-ownership of Caxton Street Brewing Company, while Johnny continues his career as a theatre producer.

As they prepare for this next move, the Balbuziantes are already considering future renovation projects. “Johnny and I have loved flipping this home, and hope potentially to do it again,” Kerry said, adding, “I’m a weirdo. I love moving house and having a blank canvas to start again and decorate.”
