Two Men Face Court After Alleged Shaw Road Business Break-in

Two Northgate residents are facing criminal charges after police responded to reports of a break-in at a Shaw Road business during the early hours of 16 January.

Queensland Police allege the incident occurred at approximately 1am when officers from Hendra Station were called to the scene following reports of two men inside the premises.

According to police, when officers arrived, they allegedly found one of the suspects attempting to leave through a smashed front glass door, whilst the second man was reportedly trying to escape through a rear exit. Both men were taken into custody at the location.

The suspects, aged 25 and 23, were transported to Brisbane City Watchhouse where they were formally charged. The older man faces two charges: obstructing police and entering premises to commit an indictable offence by break. His co-accused has been charged with entering premises to commit an indictable offence by break.

Both men were remanded in custody and appeared before Brisbane Magistrates Court on 16 January.

The incident serves as a reminder for Wavell Heights residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activity in their neighbourhood. Police emphasise that community safety relies on cooperation between law enforcement and local residents.

Man Hospitalised After Early Morning Crash at Wavell Heights Intersection

A local man in his twenties was taken to hospital following a dramatic single-vehicle crash that left a car engulfed in flames at a busy Wavell Heights intersection early Saturday morning.

Emergency crews were called to the corner of Bilsen Road and Edinburgh Castle Road just before 6:30am on 26 July, where they discovered a vehicle that had rolled over and caught fire after colliding with a parked car.

Queensland Fire and Emergency Services worked to extinguish the blaze while paramedics assessed the driver, who sustained minor injuries in the incident. The man was transported to Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital in a stable condition.

The early morning timing meant fewer people were around to witness the dramatic scene, though the vehicle fire would have been visible to residents in the surrounding streets.

Queensland Ambulance Service confirmed they responded to the incident along with fire crews, ensuring the injured driver received prompt medical attention despite the challenging circumstances presented by the vehicle fire.

The crash serves as a reminder for local motorists to exercise caution, particularly during the quieter early morning hours when visibility may be reduced and roads less busy.

No other vehicles were involved in the incident beyond the parked car that was struck before the rollover occurred.

Series of Burglary Attempts Target Wavell Heights

A series of burglary attempts across Wavell Heights last Thursday night has prompted police to seek public assistance as they continue their search for the suspect.

Between 10:45 PM and 11:30 PM on Thursday, March 20, an unknown male attempted to break into multiple homes and vehicles across five streets in the suburb. The affected areas include Glenside Street, Benyon Street, Newman Road, Highlands Street, and Main Avenue.

In one successful theft, keys to a vehicle were taken from a Highlands Street address. A suspicious Volkswagen Amarok noted during the incidents was later recovered in neighbouring Northgate the following day.

Police responded promptly after receiving reports of suspicious activity from Wavell Heights residents, deploying unmarked units and the dog squad to patrol the area. Despite their quick response, the suspect had already fled the scene.

Investigators have obtained CCTV footage from residents, which they’ve distributed to patrolling officers. Police have released a description of a person of interest who may be able to assist with their ongoing investigation.

The man is described as having a tanned complexion, proportionate build, and dark hair worn in a bun. At the time of the incidents, he was wearing blue shorts and a black baseball cap, but no shirt or shoes.

Local authorities are asking residents to remain vigilant and ensure their homes and vehicles are properly secured. They’re also requesting anyone with additional information or security footage from the night of March 20 to come forward.
